Yo!!
Well the Hawera Huckfest went off last weekend. The rain in the morning seemed to scare off all the northerners (above taranaki) but the boys from Otaki and Waikanae made the trip up for a sunny afternoon of shredding. After drying out the odd puddle on the park we kicked off the high jump. Going off one of the small 1 foot wedges on the street side of the park the boys got up there with local hawera boys Joel, Bonnie and Jono being the final three. The height poles were at their limit at 58 inches with it taking a few goes but Jono Orr being the only person to get over it, taking the win.
A massive train around the park started up over one of the hips and carried on for ages before the street jam got under way.
Highlights from the street were: Kendal doing more lines, grinds, manuals and rail rides than anyone else, riding every rail on the park and nose manual hanger being his best trick, winning street. Jackie from Waikanae also showed his street skills with hang fives, footjams and clean tailwhips, taking it out for the young rippers. Other highlights include Darren doing the biggest tailwhip of the day over the big table, Boof pedal grind to 180s and pegless icepicks, Jase crooked grinding everything and a hole lot of other stuff that I've forgotten about.
The Bowl Jam got underway and ended up being a Kane Ohagan Huckfest over the Spine, including 720, 360 whip, backflip, massive alley 3's into the hip landing, 360 drop into the 7 foot just some of the tricks he threw down. Liam from Wanganui also landed a couple of nice 720s and tailwhips over the spine. A lot of flow was thrown around in the rest of the bowl, with Phil and Joe from Kapiti, Boof, Joel, Jono and Bonnie from Hawera, Bonnie winning highest air in the bowl, with some massive hucks in the seven foot.
The only major injury was Kyle Jackways shattering the end of his finger...
Overall it wasn't a bad jam for redneck country!!
